Global shipping’s carbon dioxide emissions posted year-on-year gains of 4.9% in 2021 and were higher than 2019, according to SSY – Simpson Spence Young, the world’s largest independent shipbroker established in 1880, in its annual industry outlook 2022. In June 2021, the International Maritime Organization adopted key short-term measures aimed at cutting the carbon intensity of all ships by at least 40% by 2030.
