In this article, Javier de Mendoza, professor emeritus of Organic Chemistry and leader of the ICIQ (Institut Català d’Investigació Química), talks about the modern world´s fascination with everything “green”, including potential energy sources. After providing a brief explanation of the hydrogen color spectrum and its challenges, he talks about discovering the startling amount of research on naturally-occurring hydrogen trapped in the Earth´s subsurface in significant quantities, and what this renewable source of hydrogen could mean for the advancement of science.
